How much difference in size is acceptable?

Ideally, it is recommended to not exceed a 3{2e1e219470849bf7ec91275b0a9fbc84b08096e911ffdb617f5afdb5ab7ea907} difference when changing from the OEM size on a non-modified vehicle. A green row means that the alternate tire diameter matches the calculated tire diameter.

Is it okay to change tire size?

It is possible to change the size of your tires without actually changing the diameter because generally, it is not advisable you go with tires that have a diameter that is more than 3{2e1e219470849bf7ec91275b0a9fbc84b08096e911ffdb617f5afdb5ab7ea907} different from the factory recommended tires. So it is okay to change tire size but strictly working within the stipulated standard recommendation.

Do wider tires ride better?

The choice is yours and either has its advantages and negative effects.  Avoid bigger wheels if you want a smoother ride. As a matter of fact, bigger wheels result in a rougher ride while opting for a smaller wheel and a thicker tire can give you a smoother ride without any major modifications to your car

While larger-diameter wheels and tires should improve handling and high-speed performance, lower-profile tires also tend to have a firmer ride and may be noisier than the smaller standard rubber.

Some potential performance benefits may be offset by the additional weight of the larger tires and wheels. If the new wheels and tires are bigger than the originals, the tires may rub against the fender well when making tight turns or when the suspension bottoms out.

As a general rule of thumb, it is safer to fit a tire up to 20 millimeters wider than stock on the original rim.
