Firestone WeatherGrip Reviews

No matter how lovely, stylish, and great your vehicle is on road, remember what keeps it in contact with its purpose are tires.

Tires contribute a lot to its performance and delivery.

For example – it is present in the fuel mileage, handling, steering, braking, cornering, and most especially your safety.

And for this reason, there are lots of ongoing research and development to make tires serve you better.

At Bridgestone Firestone, the engineers are no different, as they keep searching for ways to improve the abilities and performance of tires for their consumers.

Since 2013, this manufacturer has been working on the development of five products for you and they launched them this year.

Among these products is Firestone WeatherGrip that we will be getting into in this Firestone WeatherGrip review, the Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack, the Blizzak WS90 that we have reviewed, the Destination A/T2, and Destination X/T.

These five products have been created with some new designs and even some new technologies exclusive to this manufacturer that shows lots of improvement in these tires when comparing them to their predecessor and counterparts.

Firestone WeatherGrip

The Firestone WeatherGrip

The WeatherGrip is the company’s first all-Firestone weatherGrip tireweather touring tire designed for cars, minivans, and CUVs.

It is engineered to get you through all-weather with a great performance delivery.

You get to rock it all year round without the worry of swapping tires and you can have so much confidence in its performance being that it boasts the added traction and control on wet and snowy conditions.

It has much more to offer than an all-season tire.

The tire comes with a 65,000-mile limited warranty which means it has come to deliver lasting performance and it is available in 33 sizes to fit more than 60% of sedans, minivans, and CUVs on the road today, as stated by Bridgestone.

The tire is proven to give a good snow performance as it is certified and branded with the industry three-Peak Mountain Snowflake rating (3PMSF).

Warranty

This tire is equipped by Firestone with Firestone 90-Day buy and try guarantee for its consumers.

So, if you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return and exchange this tire within 90-days.

Also, you get 65,000 miles warranty from Firestone.

Technology

HydroGrip: The WeatherGrip includes full-depth grooves and an open shoulder slot that enhances water evacuation on the wet surface, as well as a rounded footprint that helps reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

TractionTech Package: Its 3D interlocking sipes create more edges for better performance on snow and wet surface and its full-depth tread design help to deliver long tread life and better wear.

For What Driver

As stated earlier, the WeatherGrip is designed for drivers of sedans, minivans, and CUVs who want to be in control and do not want to have to worry about swapping tires in multiple seasons.

So, there is no need to worry about changing from all season to dedicated winter tires or switching tires all 3 seasons.

But Can It Really Be Used In All Weather?

This tire is great all year round and in almost all driving conditions.

However, for drivers who live where there can be frequent extreme snow and icy conditions, extreme snowstorm, and serious frequent winter conditions then a dedicated winter tire will still be the best choice to pick.

For example, people who live in Snowbelt areas like London, Southern Ontario, etc. should keep to dedicated winter tires.

But for drivers with infrequent heavy snow, not too much ice, or just light snow conditions then the Firestone WeatherGrip will be a good choice to pick without worrying about any other season all year round.

As Stated By The Manufacturers:

“Drivers today are looking for durable, dependable tires that work hard and keep them in control in every driving season,” said Erik Seidel, president, consumer replacement tire sales, U.S. and Canada, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations. “This is why we built the Firestone WeatherGrip tire to provide enhanced grip in wet and winter conditions, so drivers can confidently take on any forecast.”

As stated by Saul the Firestone WeatherGrip is the company’s answer to their customers’ needs.

“It’s got Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake certified winter performance, which by and large is going to be better than an all-season tire in the snow, but it’s not a dedicated winter tire because it’s got to be a four-season product,” Saul said. “In other words, you’re going to put this on your vehicle and leave it on year-round. Most people who buy winter tires switch back and forth each season because they need winter tire traction in ice, slush and snow all winter long.”

For those living in countries where it is compulsory to have winter tires on, you have your answer, especially those places where the snow rating is compulsory as this tire is certified and branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake. “Customers asked the question ‘why can’t I get that winter performance and keep that tire on year-round without having to put winter tires on?’” Crews said.

Pros

  • Great performance all year round
  • All-weather performance
  • 65,000-mile limited warranty
  • 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake certified
  • Quiet drive

Cons

  • Quite unresponsive on dry roads
Alfred's TakeAlfred's Take

Now speaking of the Firestone weather grip, this is an all-weather tire.

You can call it something more than an all-season, but it is not a winter-dedicated tire.

This tire is built for consumers that hate to have tires swap in some season, like winter season and we can agree that it can get stressful swapping.

For those of us that live in cities with not too much snow or not too extreme winter then, this tire is what we have been waiting for.

Conclusion

This tire is new and there are not many reviews on it yet, however it was tested against another tire and it really proved to deliver good performance with quality.

It also possesses good stopping distance power.

You can take advantage of the 90-day try and buy guarantee and when you do, remember to leave us a review down below.

We hope you find this helpful in learning about the new Firestone WeatherGrip.

If you have a comment or question, leave it in the box below, and we will be glad to hear from you.

  1. Just ordered a set. Live in Mississippi not much snow. But a lot of rain just hope they ride well and good in thunderstorms still out of power from hurricane IDA!!!!

  2. I ordered a set of Firestone WeatherGrip tires (205 55 16 H) only to learn later that the H speed rating was no longer made in that size. Will the stiffness in the available V rated tire of the same size make the ride harsh? My car has a firm suspension and I prefer a softer riding tire.

  3. hi there!
is this tire cost more gas or less compare to All weather tire ?
Firestone WeatherGrip is an All season
    thank

  4. I own a 2011 KIA Rondo 5 door mini wagon. Its due for new rubber. I have driven on some prior all wearhers before on a prior owned Sentra. If I go for 4 new Firestone Weathergrips on the Rondo there is choice. I could go 205 60R16 size or step down to 205 55R16. A slightly lower sidewall and vehicle height. But with my first all electric steer the Rondo is quick responsive. Do 55 series transmit more road shock? Just curious to know. The prior 14″” tires are cheaper than 16s. ouch

    1. Hello Mike, if I understand your question. You were asking which size to go for, if there is one with more road shock than the other, am I right?. Well you have to get the size that suit your car best for you to enjoy the tires, you can go higher or lower if you wish but just note that the tires performance are the same… One size is not better than the other, you just have to choose the one that suits your vehicle, I hope you find this helpful.

  5. Purchased and installed by my local Firestone dealer early January 2020 on a 2014 Honda Accord Sport (FWD sedan). I consider the Blizzak as my winter tire benchmark and enjoyed that tire in the past but didn’t want to hassle with swapping them out. I couldn’t find a review of snow/ice performance before my purchase and took a chance given that the tread design is similar to the Blizzak with an all-season rubber compound. I average 30k mi. per year, mostly highway.

Driving in northern Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin since purchased has given me good experience with snow/sleet/ice/wet/dry behavior.
Dry: Good feel, not too soft or spongy, quiet, comfortable. Overall good.
Wet: Decent wet traction with slight understeer when pushed. Fairly stable and overall good.
Snow: Really good snow traction at both slow and highway speeds. Good grip for starting, cornering, and stopping. Up to 6″ of snow tested, car can’t clear more than that.
Ice: Really good ice traction, similar to Blizzak performance. Really stable starting, cornering, and stopping. Very secure. Walking/slipping on sheets of ice to get into the car then driving away with ease was a common theme.
Sleet/Slush: Very common on roads and highways, very stable performance. Excellent behavior and allows for passing in an uncleared highway lane (FWD sedan).

This tire exceeds all of my expectations. It does exactly what I hoped for and have wanted for years. It gives me very good snow/sleet/ice traction in town and on the highway while being confident/quiet/stable in normal dry/wet pavement. Curious how long the tread actually lasts and how the next winter will feel.

    1. Thanks Richard for giving us a thorough and elaborate explanation on this tire. We appreciate your quality contribution.

  6. These tires are a POS if you live in the mountains and deal with snowfall in FEET. My tenant put these on her Tucson despite my insistence she get a dedicated winter tire and the urgent/.panicked phonecalls to me to help her drive up my driveway or my street were nonstop. Let’s hope she marches back over to the snakeoil salesman she got these from and make them add studs because otherwise she just wasted her $$$.

  7. I live in rural NW Wisconsin, where snowfall ranges from light to heavy multiple times every winter. My tire dealer was confident the new Firestone Weathergrips would outperform all-season tires on my Subaru Outback wagon with AWD. After getting four Weathergrips installed this morning, I drove 175 miles this afternoon into evening on dry to icy roads. I am pleased with their performance and quieter ride than seasonal snow tires. So far, so good. We have more snow in next week’s forecast, so I will report again after a few daily commutes of 34 miles on a hilly, curvy two-lane county highway. Steve Briggs, Grantsburg WI 12-6-2019

      1. I had a set of 4 Firestone Weathergrip tires installed on my 2018 Nissan Rogue AWD. I just moved to the Atlanta area from Florida and even though I had a little bit more left on the OEM tires, knowing that I travel to the mountains, I wanted a good tire for the occasional snow we get here. By description, it sounded perfect. I feel a real difference in traction and control of the new tires. However, I am surprised that they are noisier than expected, due to their description and other reviews from people who have them. I’ve had them for a month. I was hoping that the noise would get better. It’s really bad on some road surfaces and not so bad on others. The previous tires that were pretty worn, were extremely quiet and I would expect noise from older worn tires. The Nissan Rogue is an extremely quiet vehicle, so again, I am a little disappointed. I am aware of the 90 day trial policy, and I haven’t decided what to do. I believe that they are really good tires and will benefit from their traction. But, being a little OCD with ADHD, the noise is driving me a little crazy 😜. I would recommend them however.

  8. Just purchased (4) new Weathergrips for my son’s Chevrolet Cobalt. He lives in Bemidji, MN and during the last snowstorm when 15 co-workers called in to work due to not getting through the snow…he plowed through to work in his little car. These tires are amazing according to my son.

  9. I just got 4 tires for my crv. It is very quiet and i felt the grip and traction were better than old one. However it has bit of delay(very little) on handling

  10. I just had 4 new Firestone Weathergrip tires installed on our Pontiac Montana minivan last week. These were recommended by the dealer we trust. I was surprised by the quiet on the road and love the price! Winter can come now!

  11. Just had four Firestone Weathergrip tires put on my car. Very quiet and smooth ride, better than I expected because my mechanic said it would make more noise than summer tires. Last week there was heavy snow ( I live in Toronto, Canada) and I have no problem at all. Very happy with these new tires.

    1. Hi Tan,

After going all winter, do you still enjoy these tires? Are they good in heavy snowfall? I also live in Toronto and I’m thinking about getting these verse winter tires.

      Thanks!

  12. Just had four new Firestone Weathergrip tires put on my wife’s car. I texted an hour after she left to head home with the car and she responded with “omg, Its like driving a brand new car. No noise and very smooth ride. Loving it so far and feeling confident with winter coming on soon.
